At the 52nd annual dinner of the MPS, on May 9, 2002, incoming President Dina Sokal gave the "Lifetime of Service" award to Jonas Rappeport, MD. She introduced him by speaking about his "life-long career of dedication to the needs of psychiatric patients", cited his energy, organizational skills, and integrity, and mentioned some of his many accomplishments.

  [Winter 2002; Vol. 28, No. 2; Pg 14-16] I was thrilled by a July 18, 2001 meeting of the ACNP which was held in Washington, DC, to honor its members who won the 2000 Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine, for their discoveries concerning signal transduction in the nervous system. It was a gala event with many distinguished speakers.

I’m not a fourth-year, why would I want to go to a Career Fair? We have lectures all day that day, I don’t think I want to go to another at night. These were among the many reactions within the resident classes to the reintroduction of the idea of a career dinner. Making this year’s dinner relevant to the current crop of trainees was the task presented to the new Residents and Fellows Committee.

On Saturday evening September 29, 2001 there were over 500 attendees at the presentation of Three Roses. The event was held at the Kraushaar Auditorium of Goucher College, in Towson. Co-sponsored by the Maryland Foundation for Psychiatry, this MPS program achieved not only artistic excellence, but also great success in attracting a large professional audience along with the general public.
