While technically not an MPS committee, this group serves an important function for MPS members. The APA Assembly Delegation includes MPS members serving in the APA Assembly and is co-chaired by MPS's Assembly Reps. The delegation meets regularly to coordinate MPS representation in the APA and is a forum for MPS members with concerns they would like APA to address.

This committee represents the Society's interest and concern on issues in child and adolescent psychiatry, and acts in liaison with other committees and organizations with related concerns.

This committee coordinates promotion of the MPS and its value to members, non-member psychiatrists and others. Its focus is on improving communications, especially enhancing the MPS’s ability to communicate more effectively via the website, and developing the MPS’s "public face," working with other committees to put out messages about issues important to the psychiatric community.

This committee works toward the goals of advocating for patients, supporting education and training in disaster psychiatry, enhancing the scientific basis of psychiatric care for victims of disaster, and developing a disaster readiness plan.

This committee selects the Society's nominees for APA Distinguished Fellowship each year in accordance with APA Guidelines. Its members must be Distinguished Fellows or Distinguished Life Fellows.

This committee is responsible to the Council for supervising and advising the Editor of The Maryland Psychiatrist regarding policies, article selections, and general management of the publication. (Dr. Sokal serves as Editor.)

This committee reviews ethical dilemmas in psychiatric practice, and provides leadership and guidance to members. The committee also has responsibility for investigating ethical complaints against members following action by the Maryland Board of Physicians. It is constitutionally limited to eight members, three of whom must be past presidents.

This committee represents the Society's interest and concern on issues in geriatric psychiatry and acts in liaison with other committees and organizations with related concerns.

This committee deals with issues of unique concern to psychiatrists who are international medical school graduates. It gathers pertinent information, recommends Society positions, and proposes and helps implement appropriate action.

This committee pursues the Society's interests in all mental health matters, initiating and responding to proposed state and federal legislation. Liaison with other MPS committees, the Suburban Maryland Psychiatric Society, our common lobbyist, Med Chi, and other patient and professional advocacy groups is integral to this committee's work. This is a very active committee, particularly during the legislative session from early January to early April each year. Members critique bills and may testify in Annapolis on bills the committee feels are most important.

This committee represents the Society's interest and concern on issues in managed care and utilization review. Its activities range from gathering information on and assisting with complaints, to recommending Society positions, to legislative, regulatory and public awareness initiatives.

This committee recruits and evaluates applicants for membership in the Society, in accordance with the Society's Constitution and By-Laws, and APA policy. The committee welcomes new members and is active in member retention.

This committee reviews reports by peer reviewers assigned to cases received from the Maryland Board of Physicians, providing further assurance that information in the reports reflects the standard of care in the community. Cases arise when the Board receives complaints by patients and/or their families against psychiatrists. Both patients and psychiatrists benefit from the specialty expertise that is provided to the Board.

This committee plans and organizes the Society's scientific programs for the following year, ensures that programs qualify for CME credit, and complies with requirements for status as an accredited organization.

This committee, made up of MITs from the accredited training programs in Maryland, has the responsibility of planning and implementing educational, career planning, and social events for MITs, as well as to bring MIT issues to the attention of the MPS Council and to convey Society information to residents and fellows.
