The American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law (AAPL) held its 30th annual scientific meeting in Baltimore from October 14, 1999 to October 17th at the Inner Harbor's Renaissance Hotel. Over 600 psychiatrists attended the meeting.
AAPL was originally founded in Baltimore. MPS past president Jonas Rappeport served as AAPL's first president and medical director. In his honor, the University of Maryland Fellowship in Forensic Psychiatry held a dinner at the Center Club. Twenty of Dr. Rappeport's former fellows attended, along with 130 other psychiatrists from all over the United States.
AAPL has flourished under Dr. Rappeport's leadership and now has over 2200 members. Although now retired as Chief Medical Officer for the Circuit Court for Baltimore City, Dr. Rappeport continues to teach at the University of Maryland Fellowship, provides invaluable advice for others, and remains active in MPS activities.
